MyEndoscope Selected for the 2024 IPA MITOU Advanced Program

MyEndoscope, a project now being developed and advanced toward commercialization by IKEIKEN, was selected for the 2024 MITOU Advanced Program organized by the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan.

The selected project was titled “Development of an Endoscopy Training System Using Gamification.” At the time of selection, the development team consisted of Nao Sumi, Chiaki Ushimaru, Hiroki Mitarai, and Mamoru Ito. (独立行政法人情報処理推進機構)

Through the program, the team developed a portable controller capable of capturing the distinctive movements involved in endoscopy, including angulation, rotation, and forward-and-backward motion. The controller was combined with a 3D simulation application in which users could repeatedly practice fundamental endoscope operation and therapeutic procedures.

The team also conducted prototype evaluations with medical students and physicians, identifying areas for improved fidelity and exploring the potential of the system for objective skills assessment.

This milestone marked an important transition for MyEndoscope from an early research prototype toward a practical medical education platform.

IKEIKEN will continue working to create an environment in which healthcare professionals can learn and practice anytime and anywhere, regardless of their access to instructors or specialized training facilities.
